Mining Native Copper

Mining Native Copper

Stories about mining in Michigan's Copper Country continue as Jack Foster recalls the working life with Calumet & Hecla Mining Company. This program includes a rare film produced in the 1940s that shows actual footage of men and machines mining native copper on the Keweenaw Peninsula in the Lake Superior copper district.
Jack Foster describes memories of his life and others he knew during the largest mineral rush in the United States.
The Copper Country of Michigan is one of the few places on earth where Copper can be found in a "native" state as pure copper chunks.
Running time approximately 28 minutes
